Controlling BVD in an extensive lifestock raising farm in Galicia, Spain

Pablo Óscar González y Francisco Javier Álvarez

Back

Pablo Óscar González, a spanish veterinarian, is working in the cattle business since 15 years, always in contact with Bovine Viral Diarrhea (BVD). In this video he shows us the farm of Francisco Álvarez with 82 animals, where dams and calves are staying up to 5 months together before calves are sent to fattening sheds. Francisco explains his problems of recent miscarriages and lower fertility rates and how BVD vaccination changed the situation. Due to these problems the farm suffered from economic losses as calving cycles were becoming longer and most of the new born calves were weak.
