Control programs require the use of accurate diagnostic tests for the detection of BVD virus, antigen or specific antibodies. These tests can be used to detect virus exposure both at the individual and herd level. The interference of maternal antibodies in colostrum-fed calves must be kept in consideration during surveillance programs.
